void-agent is an agent core built on one refusal: an agent framework is not a workflow engine. No task state machine, no journal to replay, no resume protocol. The conversation your application already stores is the only durable state; a turn reads it and carries on.
- The human is in the loop by design. The model can ask the person, and a tool can insist on their signature before it does anything that cannot be undone. Either question reaches the person directly, from any depth — a sub-agent's, a workflow's — and the answer lands exactly where it was asked. Nobody there to answer? The turn ends with the card open, and the next message picks it up. - Authority never rests with the model. Which calls need a signature is decided in your code, tool by tool. The model explains what it wants to do; it never decides whether a side effect runs. - One stream, any chat UI. Every step, tool call, plan and question goes out in the Vercel AI SDK UI message protocol, so a compatible front end shows live progress and approval cards with no custom wiring. - Capabilities from anywhere, mounted one way. Async functions, workflows, sub-agents, an MCP server's tools, and folders of Markdown skills all attach with the same call. - Small enough to read in an afternoon. About 2,000 lines of Python, one concept per file, pydantic as the only dependency. Anthropic, OpenAI-compatible endpoints and MCP are optional extras, and their SDKs never leak past their adapters.
